What is a Transition Team?

A Transition Team works leads a congregation, after the departure of a pastor, in doing work called “discovery.” The Transition Team engages in a self-study and discernment process, intentionally looking at where the congregation has been, where the congregation is now, and who God is calling the community to be in the future. This work prepares the congregation to write what is called a “ministry site profile,” which is an in-depth description of the church as well as what kind of a pastor would be a good fit for the church.

Sometimes, in an interim process, a call committee engages in this same work. This is just a different way of accomplishing the same work, and still take the same amount of time

How long does the work of the Transition Team take?

Because every church is different, and because every previous pastor has been in place for different amounts of time, the timeline can vary. However, many congregations can accomplish the work, have a ministry site profile filled out, and begin interviewing people within a year.

Who is on the Transition Team?

Mark Jury, Barbara Browning, and Alicia Murray. Lisa Strom is a Interim Coach who guides the process.

If you have questions about where we are in the process, or would like to share your thoughts about our church or what we need in a pastor, any of them would love to speak with you. They will add any feedback that you have to the data we have already collected and it will be considered as we write the ministry site profile.
